Blue rose hoop art – free pattern
By LESLIE A. PANFIL
One way to make embroidery more contemporary is to use nontraditional colors. This sweet rose pattern is rendered in lovely shades of aqua and green. I use a light table to trace my pattern on to a blank sheet of paper using a transfer pen. I use Sulky Brand pens. The pattern is then transferred on to the fabric with a hot iron. You can also draw the pattern directly on to the fabric with a fabric pen or pencil. If you don’t have a light table, simply tape the pattern to a window or sliding glass door then place the fabric over the pattern and draw directly on the fabric. The natural light will act just like a light table.
Where to Find Sulky Pens
5” embroider hoop
12” of ribbon
Embroidery needle
10” x10” piece of fabric
Masking Tape (I like to tape the edges of my fabric so they do not fray.)
Scissors
Embroidery Floss (light aqua, dark aqua, light green, dark green)
Transfer the pattern to your 10” x 10” fabric. Tape or sew edges to prevent fraying. Place hoop on material. Complete pattern with an outline or satin stitch. The example shown was done with a satin stitch. Here is a photo tutorial for creating a satin stitch.
Trim excess material and hot glue fabric to the back, inside of hoop. Attach ribbon to the screw and display!
